Things to Do this Fall Season in the South Valley in 2026

Things to Do in October in the South Valley

Fall settles into the South Valley in a way that makes it one of the best times of year to be outside — cooler mornings, gold and rust colors climbing the Wasatch, and a full calendar of pumpkin patches, harvest festivals, and Halloween happenings across every city here. A handful of the best small-town events actually kick off in September, so this guide covers the whole run of the season, from Riverton down to American Fork.

Regional Favorites Worth the Drive

A few of the area's biggest fall attractions pull people in from all eleven of these cities, so they're worth calling out first.

Cornbelly's Corn Maze & Pumpkin Fest at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi runs September 21 through October 31, 2026. It's the classic South Valley fall outing — corn maze, pumpkin patch, pig races, and the after-dark "Frightbelly's" for anyone who wants a scare with their s'mores. WitchFest at Gardner Village in West Jordan runs September 18 through October 31, 2026. The historic shopping village fills with witch displays, wagon rides, an escape room, and a whimsical, family-friendly vibe that's become a South Valley Halloween tradition since 2000. (gardnervillage.com)

Hee Haw Farms in nearby Pleasant Grove (a quick hop from American Fork and Lehi) has its pumpkin patch, corn maze, and petting zoo open through the month — a favorite for families in the northern part of our service area.

If you're up for a drive, American Fork Canyon and Timpanogos Cave National Monument put on some of the best fall color in the state before the cave typically closes for the season in mid-October (check nps.gov/tica for the exact 2026 closing date).

City by City

Riverton — My home base, and the heart of the South Valley. The Riverton Fall Harvest Festival takes over Historic Downtown Main Street on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from noon to 6 p.m. — a fundraiser for downtown beautification with vendors and family activities all along Main Street. The community spirit carries right into October with cooler evenings perfect for a walk around Riverton Park or the Jordan River Parkway Trail.

South Jordan — Daybreak's Trick or Treat Street at SoDa Row is the neighborhood's signature Halloween event each October — kids trick-or-treat storefront to storefront along SoDa Row, with a spook alley, costume contests, carnival-style games, and live music on the SoDa Row stage (check mydaybreak.com for the exact 2026 date and registration). Pair it with a lap around Oquirrh Lake while the aspens turn — October evenings here are ideal for house-hunting drives through Daybreak's walkable neighborhoods.

Herriman — Herriman Howl hits J. Lynn Crane Park & Plaza on Monday, October 5, 2026, starting at 5 p.m. — free admission, with a dinosaur-themed "Jurassic Junction," a reptile encounter zone, a Halloween train ride, a DJ dance party, pumpkin decorating, a skeleton scene contest, a dog costume contest, food trucks, and trick-or-treating with local businesses. Blackridge Reservoir Park is also a great spot for a crisp-air walk, and with new neighborhoods going up around Herriman every season, October's clearer light makes it a great month to actually see the mountain views a lot of these lots are selling on.

Draper — Halloween on the High Seas at Loveland Living Planet Aquarium is Draper's signature October event — kids trick-or-treat their way through the exhibits (check livingplanetaquarium.org for 2026 dates and tickets). Corner Canyon's trail system is also at its best this time of year for mountain biking or an evening hike.

West Jordan — Beyond WitchFest at Gardner Village, the city typically runs its own community trunk-or-treat in October (check westjordan.utah.gov for the 2026 date), and the Jordan River Parkway running through town is a quiet, colorful place for a fall run or bike ride.

Sandy — Sandy City hosts an annual Halloween Trick or Treat community event each October (check sandy.utah.gov/community-events for the confirmed 2026 date and location). With the mouth of Big Cottonwood and Little Cottonwood Canyons right there, Sandy residents also get some of the earliest and best fall color in the valley, and Dimple Dell Regional Park is a local favorite for an October afternoon.

Lehi — Home to Cornbelly's and Thanksgiving Point's Museum of Natural Curiosity and Ashton Gardens, both worth a visit once the pumpkin crowds thin out on weekdays.

Saratoga Springs — The city's Fall Fest lands the first weekend of October (recent listings point to Friday, October 2 – Saturday, October 3, 2026) at Aspen Hills Park — check saratogaspringscity.com/events for the confirmed schedule. The Saratoga Springs Marina on Utah Lake is also a beautiful, less-crowded spot to catch a fall sunset.

Eagle Mountain — The city hosts an Adaptive Trick-or-Treat each October for families of kids with disabilities (held at City Hall in years past, typically the first weekend of the month), plus its usual round of neighborhood trunk-or-treats — check eaglemountain.gov/events for this year's full schedule. Eagle Mountain's wide-open feel and mountain views are especially pretty in fall light.

American Fork — Historic Main Street and nearby American Fork Canyon make for a great October afternoon, and it's a short drive to Hee Haw Farms for the classic pumpkin patch experience. Keep an eye on americanfork.gov for any city-run trunk-or-treat added to this year's calendar.

Bluffdale — Bluffdale hosts its own Halloween Trunk or Treat each October (check bluffdale.gov's calendar for the date) — a nice reminder of the small-town feel that draws a lot of buyers here in the first place.

Why This Matters if You're House-Hunting

Fall is genuinely one of the best times to tour neighborhoods in any of these South Valley cities. The leaves are turning, the crowds from summer open houses have thinned out, and you can actually picture what a street looks like without the July heat haze. If any of these events double as an excuse to drive a neighborhood you've had your eye on, I'd take it.

If you'd like a personal tour of what's for sale in any of these cities — or just want to talk through which one fits your next move — I'm always happy to help.

Note: A few exact 2026 dates (West Jordan's city trunk-or-treat, Sandy's Trick or Treat event, Eagle Mountain's full Halloween schedule, American Fork's calendar, the aquarium's event, and Daybreak's Trick or Treat Street) hadn't been finalized/published as of this writing — I've flagged those so you can drop in the confirmed date once each city or venue posts it.
