If you're thinking about moving to American Fork, UT, schools are probably near the top of your list. American Fork is one of the oldest cities in Utah County, and it is also home base for public education in the north county: Alpine School District's main office sits here, and so will the offices of the new Aspen Peaks School District. Inside city limits there are five public elementary schools, one junior high, one high school and one charter school, Odyssey Charter School.
I've helped Utah families buy and sell homes since 2005. This guide puts everything in one place for the 2026-27 school year: every school, its grades and address, and plain answers to the questions American Fork parents ask me most.
One big change to know about up front: American Fork's public schools belong to Alpine School District today. Starting in July 2027, with the 2027-28 school year, American Fork moves into the new Aspen Peaks School District.

A Parent's Guide: Your American Fork School Questions, Answered
How do school boundaries work in American Fork?
The school district gives every home address one elementary school, one junior high and one high school. Kids at a given elementary usually move on together to American Fork Junior High and then American Fork High. This path is called a "feeder pattern." The school board sets the boundaries, and they can change. Homes near the city's edges, close to Lehi, Highland, Cedar Hills or Pleasant Grove, are the ones most worth double-checking.
How can I check which schools a specific address feeds into?
Alpine School District doesn't have a public "type in your address" school finder that I can point you to. The surest way is to call the school, or the district office at (801) 610-8400, and give them the exact address. Do this for any home you're serious about, even if a listing or a website names the school. Listing details aren't always current. I confirm this with the district for my clients before they write an offer.
What's happening with Alpine School District?
In 2024, Utah County voters approved splitting Alpine School District into three smaller districts. American Fork joins Alpine, Cedar Hills, Highland, Lehi and the Utah County part of Draper in the new Aspen Peaks School District, which takes over in July 2027, starting with the 2027-28 school year. Its district office is right here in American Fork, at 759 E Pacific Dr.
Aspen Peaks is also looking at its school boundaries. Its public feedback survey closed October 1, 2026, and the east-side schools it named included Barratt Elementary, American Fork Junior High and American Fork High. No boundary hearings had been scheduled as of this writing. If you're buying in American Fork now, plan on confirming your assigned schools again once Aspen Peaks finalizes its boundaries.
What is open enrollment, and how does it work?
Open enrollment lets your child apply to a public school other than the one your address is assigned to. Utah law sets the main application window from November 15 through the first Friday in February for the following school year. For 2027-28, that's November 15, 2026 through February 5, 2027. Approval depends on whether the school you want has room. Because 2027-28 is the first year of Aspen Peaks, check with the district about where to apply. Alpine's registration and enrollment page is the place to start.
How do charter schools work?
Charter schools in Utah are free public schools that any Utah student can apply to, no matter where they live. You apply directly to each charter, not through the district. When a charter gets more applications than it has seats, it holds a lottery. Many families apply to a charter and still keep their assigned neighborhood school as a backup.
Where can I see test scores and school data?
The Utah State Board of Education publishes a report card for every public and charter school. The Utah Data Gateway lets you look up test scores, enrollment and other details for any American Fork school and compare schools side by side.
How do schools affect home values in American Fork?
Schools are one of the first things families ask about, and that demand shows up when it's time to sell. A home's assigned schools, how far it is to walk or drive to them, and whether its boundaries are about to change can all shape how buyers see it. With Aspen Peaks reviewing east-side boundaries, this matters even more in American Fork right now. When I help a family price or compare homes, the school assignment is part of that conversation.
Questions to Ask When You're House Shopping in American Fork
- Which elementary, junior high and high school is this exact address assigned to today?
- Could that change when Aspen Peaks School District sets its boundaries?
- If the home is near the Lehi, Highland, Cedar Hills or Pleasant Grove line, which city's schools does it actually feed?
- How do the assigned schools compare with Odyssey and the other charter schools nearby?
- What will the school-day routine look like? Think about drive time, the bus, or a walk to school.
