A Parent's Guide: Your Eagle Mountain School Questions, Answered
How do school boundaries work in Eagle Mountain?
The school district assigns every home address one elementary school, one middle school and one high school. Kids from the same elementary usually move on together to the same middle school and then to Cedar Valley High. The school board sets these boundaries, and they change, especially in a city opening new schools as fast as Eagle Mountain. When Sage Canyon opened in 2025 and Juniper Basin in 2026, some neighborhoods were moved to a new school. Never assume a home goes to the closest school.
How can I check which schools a specific address feeds into?
Alpine School District doesn't offer a public tool where you can type in an address and see its schools. The most reliable way is to call the district at (801) 610-8400 with the exact address before you make an offer. If a specific school matters to you, put it in writing and confirm it during your due diligence period. I help my clients do this on every home where schools are part of the decision.
What's happening with Alpine School District?
In 2024, Utah County voters approved splitting Alpine School District into three smaller districts. Eagle Mountain joins the new Lake Mountain School District on July 1, 2027, starting with the 2027-28 school year. Its school board was sworn in in November 2025, and its offices are at 1307 N Commerce Dr in Saratoga Springs. Your child's school building isn't changing, but the district running it is. Boundaries, calendars and policies may be updated as the new district takes over.
What is open enrollment, and how does it work?
Open enrollment lets your child apply to a public school other than the one your address is assigned to. Under Utah law, the early application window for the next school year runs from November 15 through the first Friday in February. Acceptance depends on whether the school has room. Because Eagle Mountain schools are some of the most crowded in the county, don't count on open enrolling into a full school.
How do charter schools work?
Charter schools in Utah are free public schools that any Utah student can apply to, no matter where they live. You apply directly to each charter. When a charter gets more applications than it has seats, it holds a lottery. John Hancock, for example, keeps waiting lists for most grades. Apply early, and apply to more than one if a charter is your plan.
Where can I see test scores and school data?
The Utah State Board of Education publishes a report card for every public and charter school at reportcard.schools.utah.gov. There you can compare test scores, growth and enrollment side by side.
How do schools affect home values in Eagle Mountain?
In a family-heavy city like Eagle Mountain, schools are part of nearly every buying decision. Homes within walking distance of an elementary school, or tied to a newer school like Juniper Basin or Sage Canyon, often draw extra interest from young families. Buyers also pay attention to boundary changes, which are common here while new schools keep opening and the Lake Mountain district takes over. When you sell, knowing your home's current school assignment and being able to explain it clearly helps your listing stand out.
