A Parent's Guide: Your Saratoga Springs School Questions, Answered
How do school boundaries work in Saratoga Springs?
The school district gives every home address one elementary school, one middle school and one high school. Kids at a given elementary usually move on together to the same middle school and then the same high school. This path is called a "feeder pattern." The school board sets the boundaries, and they can change. In a city growing as fast as Saratoga Springs, they change more often than most people expect.
Are Saratoga Springs school boundaries changing?
Yes, and this is the most important thing to know if you're buying here now. With the new high school opening in 2028, the Lake Mountain School District board has started a secondary boundary study covering the new high school, Westlake High, Cedar Valley High, and the Lake Mountain, Vista Heights, Frontier and Sage Canyon middle schools. The district says it will weigh feeder patterns and hold open houses with chances for community input. On the elementary side, it's mostly cleaning up lines in areas with no homes yet, including around Harvest and Springside Elementary. If you're looking at a home today, plan on confirming its schools again once the new boundaries are final.
How can I check which schools a specific address feeds into?
Start with Alpine School District's Bus Stops and School Boundaries page, which links to the district's school boundary map. Then confirm by calling the school, or the district's west-side transportation office at (801) 610-8852, with the exact address. Do this for any home you're serious about, even if a listing or a website names the school, because listing details aren't always current. I confirm this with the district for my clients before they write an offer.
What's happening with Alpine School District?
In 2024, Utah County voters approved splitting Alpine School District into three smaller districts. Saratoga Springs joins Eagle Mountain, Cedar Fort and Fairfield in the new Lake Mountain School District. Lake Mountain takes over on July 1, 2027, starting with the 2027-28 school year. Its district office is at 1307 N Commerce Dr in Saratoga Springs. For now, students are expected to keep attending their current schools, and teachers stay at the schools where they're assigned.
What is open enrollment, and how does it work?
Open enrollment lets your child apply to a public school other than the one your address is assigned to. Alpine School District's early application window runs from November 15 through the first Friday in February for the following school year. For 2027-28, that's November 15, 2026 through February 5, 2027. You apply online with Alpine's Out-of-Boundary Request form, and approval depends on whether the school you want has room. Because 2027-28 is Lake Mountain's first year, check with the district about where to apply. Alpine's enrollment page is the place to start.
How do charter schools work?
Charter schools in Utah are free public schools that any Utah student can apply to, no matter where they live. You apply directly to each charter, not through the district. When a charter gets more applications than it has seats, it holds a lottery, and many hold theirs in the winter for the following fall. Many families apply to a charter and still keep their assigned neighborhood school as a backup.
Where can I see test scores and school data?
The Utah State Board of Education publishes a school report card for every public and charter school. You can look up test scores, enrollment and other details for any Saratoga Springs school and compare schools side by side.
How do schools affect home values in Saratoga Springs?
Schools are one of the first things families ask about, and that demand shows up when it's time to sell. A home's assigned schools, how far it is to walk or drive to them, and whether its boundaries are about to change can all shape how buyers see it. With a new high school and a new district on the way, this matters even more in Saratoga Springs right now. When I help a family price or compare homes, the school assignment is part of that conversation.
Questions to Ask When You're House Shopping in Saratoga Springs
- Which elementary, middle and high school is this exact address assigned to today?
- Could that change when the new high school opens in 2028?
- Which middle school does this home feed into, Lake Mountain or Vista Heights?
- How do the assigned schools compare with Lakeview Academy, Ascent and Mountain Sunrise nearby?
- What will the school-day routine look like? Think about drive time, the bus, or a walk to school.
