Best Schools in West Jordan, UT: A Parent's Guide

by Amy Atkinson

If you're moving to West Jordan, UT with kids, the school question usually comes up right after price and commute. The first thing to know is that West Jordan is served by two school districts. Most of the city is in Jordan School District, but part of West Jordan is in Granite School District. So before you fall in love with a house, check which district the address is in, and then check that district's boundary map. West Jordan also has six public charter schools of its own.

Below is every public and charter school located in West Jordan, UT, with grade levels and addresses, followed by the questions parents ask me most.

A quick note on grades: Jordan School District elementary schools serve kindergarten through 6th grade, middle schools serve 7th through 9th, and high schools serve 10th through 12th. That's different from many other states, so it's worth knowing before you compare schools.

A Parent's Guide to West Jordan Schools: Questions and Answers

How do school boundaries work in West Jordan?

Every home in Jordan School District is assigned to one elementary, one middle, and one high school based on its address. In West Jordan, most of the older east and central neighborhoods feed into West Jordan High, while most of the newer west side neighborhoods feed into Copper Hills High. That's only a general rule, though. Boundary lines follow streets, canals, and rail lines rather than neat grids, so two homes a few blocks apart can feed different schools. Never assume. Always check the specific address.

How do I check which schools a specific address feeds?

Jordan School District has a free School Boundary Look Up Map. Type in the address and it shows the assigned elementary, middle, and high school. The district's Planning & Enrollment office (801-567-8183) can confirm it by phone. Because West Jordan has two school districts, if the Jordan map doesn't show an assignment, or the home is near Jim Bridger Elementary, check Granite School District's boundary maps as well. Listing descriptions sometimes show outdated or incorrect schools, so I always verify against the district's own map before a client writes an offer.

Are any boundaries changing soon?

Jordan School District reviews boundaries regularly and posts proposals at boundary.jordandistrict.org. The current proposal for the 2027–28 school year would move an area of public and industrial land near South Valley Regional Airport from Copper Hills High to West Jordan High. No current students live in that area. Final board decisions are made in late November. If you're buying near a boundary line, it's worth checking that site before you commit.

What if we want a school other than our boundary school?

Utah has open enrollment, which Jordan District calls School Choice. You apply for a School Choice / Out-of-Boundary permit. For the 2027–28 school year, the early window runs November 15 through December 31, when requests are decided by category, priority, and/or lottery. Requests from January 1 through the first Friday in February are first-come, first-served. After that, decisions depend on whether the school has room. Once a permit is granted, it generally carries forward without reapplying each year until your child moves up to the next school level. Keep in mind that students on permits generally aren't eligible to ride the bus, so plan on driving.

How do charter school applications work?

Each charter school runs its own application and lottery, usually in the winter for the following fall. Many give priority to siblings of current students. You can apply to several charters and still keep your seat at your boundary school, so many West Jordan families do both.

Where can I see test scores and school data?

The Utah State Board of Education publishes school report cards at reportcard.schools.utah.gov, where you can look up any public or charter school. Numbers are only one piece of the picture. I always suggest visiting the school, attending a back-to-school night, or talking with parents in the neighborhood.

Do schools affect home values in West Jordan?

Yes. Buyers with kids often narrow their search by school before they look at a single house, which keeps demand steady for homes inside popular boundaries. West Jordan's median sale price was about $539,643 in August 2026 (Redfin), which makes it one of the more affordable places in the southwest valley to get into a strong school boundary. Even if you don't have school-age kids, the schools your home feeds will matter to your future buyers, so it's worth knowing them before you buy.

Questions to Ask Before You Buy

  • Is this address in Jordan School District or Granite School District?
  • Which elementary, middle, and high school does this exact address feed, according to the district map (not the listing)?
  • Is there a boundary proposal under review that could affect this address?
  • If we want a different school, when is the School Choice window, and does that school usually have room?
  • Which charter schools are close enough to make the daily drive realistic?
  • How will my kids get to school: bus, walking route, or car?

How I Help West Jordan Families

I'm Amy Atkinson, an Associate Broker with Presidio Real Estate – River Heights. I've been licensed since 2005, and I specialize in helping families buy and sell homes in West Jordan, UT and the surrounding southwest valley. For many of the families I work with, schools are the starting point. I check every home's boundaries against the district map, flag addresses near a boundary line, and help you find homes for sale within the school areas you care about most. If you're selling, I make sure your listing shows the right schools, because buyers notice. If you'd like help matching the right school with the right West Jordan home, reach out. I'm happy to help.

School names, grade levels, addresses, and enrollment details were checked against Jordan School District, Granite School District, the Utah State Board of Education, and each school's own website in October 2026. Boundaries and programs can change, so please confirm with the district before making a decision.
