If you're moving to South Jordan, UT with kids, "which school will they go to?" is usually the first question and often the one that decides which house you buy. South Jordan is served by Jordan School District, and it also has one of the strongest lineups of tuition-free charter schools in the south end of Salt Lake County.

Here's the important part: the elementary, middle, and high school a home feeds can change from one street to the next. Much of Daybreak on the west side feeds Herriman High, while most of the rest of the city feeds Bingham High. Below you'll find every public and charter school serving South Jordan, followed by answers to the questions parents ask me most.

One note on grade levels: Jordan School District runs elementary schools K–6, middle schools 7–9, and high schools 10–12. That's different from many other districts, so it's worth knowing before you compare schools.

A Parent's Guide to South Jordan Schools: Your Questions Answered

How do school boundaries work in South Jordan?

Jordan School District draws a separate boundary for each elementary, middle, and high school. Your home address decides your assigned school at every level, and those lines don't follow neighborhood names. Two homes in the same subdivision can land at different elementary schools. And South Jordan is split between two high school areas, Bingham and Herriman, so don't assume a home is "Bingham" just because it has a South Jordan address.

Boundaries can also change as the city grows. The district posts proposed changes and public comment periods on its boundary changes page, and it has set aside future school sites in Daybreak's newer villages. If you're buying in a fast-growing area, it's worth checking that page, not just today's map.

How do I check which schools a specific address feeds?

Use Jordan School District's official tool. Go to the district's Boundaries page and open the address lookup. Type in the exact home address and it shows the assigned elementary, middle, and high school. Do this for every home you're serious about, before you write an offer. Listing descriptions and third-party websites are sometimes out of date.

The district's bus stop finder will also show you whether a home qualifies for busing and where the stop is. In Jordan School District, elementary students generally qualify for a bus if they live 1.5 miles or more from school, and secondary students if they live 2 miles or more away.

Can my child attend a school outside our boundary?

Often, yes. Utah law allows open enrollment (called "School Choice" in Jordan District), so you can apply for a school other than the one you're zoned for, as long as that school has room. For the 2027–28 school year, Jordan School District's early window opens November 15, 2026. Applications through December 31 are decided by priority categories and, if needed, a lottery. From January 1 through the first Friday in February, requests are handled first-come, first-served. After that, late requests depend on space. Apply on the district's School Choice page. Once approved, a permit carries over from year to year.

One thing families often miss: if you choose an out-of-boundary school, you're responsible for getting your child there. District busing is based on your assigned school.

How do I get into a charter school?

Apply to each charter school directly through its own website. There are no boundaries and no tuition. When a school has more applicants than seats, Utah law requires a lottery, with preferences allowed for siblings and a few other groups. Most enrollment periods open in the fall or winter for the next school year, and popular schools fill up. If a charter school is part of your plan, apply early and apply to more than one.

Where can I see test scores and school performance?

The Utah State Board of Education publishes a Utah School Report Card for every public and charter school, covering achievement, growth, and more. I'd pair that with a visit. Walking the halls, meeting the principal, and talking to parents at pickup will tell you things no rating can.

How do schools affect home values in South Jordan?

A lot. Economists have studied this for decades by comparing nearly identical homes on opposite sides of a school boundary. Buyers consistently pay more to be zoned for schools they want. A September 2026 Redfin analysis found that homes near highly rated schools in the Salt Lake City metro sold for about 44% more than homes near lower-rated schools.

In South Jordan, where a home sits on the boundary map shapes who wants to buy it. That matters when you buy, and again when you sell. Even if you don't have school-age kids, the next buyer might, so it's worth knowing a home's schools either way.

Let's Match the Right Schools with the Right Home

As a Realtor who specializes in South Jordan, UT, I help families work through all of this. That means checking the boundary map on every home we look at, knowing which areas of Daybreak feed Herriman High and which neighborhoods feed Bingham, and timing a move around school choice and charter deadlines. Whether you're buying your first home or moving up to more space, I'll help you find a home that fits your family and the schools you want.

If you're selling in South Jordan, I'll make sure your home's school assignments are presented clearly to the buyers who care about them most.
