Best Schools in Sandy, UT: A Parent's Guide

by Amy Atkinson

If you're thinking about a move to Sandy, UT, there's a good chance schools are near the top of your list. They're near the top of mine whenever I help a family buy here. Sandy is served by Canyons School District, which is actually headquartered in Sandy at 9361 S. 300 East. Between the district schools, a K-12 charter school and a few specialty programs, Sandy families have a lot of choices.

Below you'll find every public and charter school that serves Sandy, with grade levels, addresses and a link to each school's own website. After that is a parent's guide answering the questions I hear most: how boundaries work, how to check the schools for a specific address, how open enrollment works and how schools affect home values here.

One quick note on grades: Canyons elementary schools serve kindergarten through 5th grade (a few also offer preschool), middle schools serve 6th through 8th, and high schools serve 9th through 12th.

A Parent's Guide to Schools in Sandy, UT

How do school boundaries work in Sandy?

Every home in Sandy is assigned to an elementary, middle and high school based on its address. Canyons uses what it calls a feeder system: your elementary school feeds into a middle school, which feeds into a high school. Some examples: Indian Hills Middle feeds Alta High, Eastmont Middle feeds Jordan High, and Union Middle feeds Hillcrest High. Albion Middle feeds mostly Brighton High, though one area within its boundary goes to Jordan High.

Here's the part that surprises people: boundaries don't follow city lines, and they do change. For the 2026-27 school year, for example, Canyons moved the Quarry Bend area north of 9000 South from Glacier Hills to East Sandy Elementary. Two neighbors on opposite sides of a street can end up at different schools.

How can I check which schools a specific Sandy address feeds?

Use Canyons School District's Boundary Locator tool. Type in the full street address and it shows the assigned elementary, middle and high school. You can also find it on the district's New Student Enrollment page.

Please don't rely on a listing description or a school name in an online search. Those can be out of date or just wrong. When I'm working with a family, I check the Boundary Locator for every home we're serious about before we write an offer.

Can my child go to a Sandy school outside our boundary?

Often, yes. Canyons runs an open enrollment program that lets students apply to a school other than their assigned one. The early enrollment window runs each year from November 15 through the first Friday in February, and families apply online at permits.canyonsdistrict.org.

A few things to know:

  • A transfer is approved only if the school has room and the right programs, so popular schools can fill up.
  • Schools let families know in the spring whether they've been accepted, and you then have 10 calendar days to confirm.
  • Once approved, the permit renews automatically at that school. You do have to reapply when your child moves up to middle or high school.
  • Late applications are accepted during the year, but space is the limit.

Open enrollment is a great option, but it isn't a guarantee. If a particular school matters a lot to you, buying inside its boundary is the surest path.

Are any Sandy schools changing?

Possibly. Like many established cities, Sandy has some schools with declining enrollment. In 2026, the Canyons Board of Education looked at merging Granite Elementary with Quail Hollow Elementary and Park Lane Elementary with Willow Canyon Elementary. In June 2026 the board paused that decision to study enrollment across the whole district first. If you're buying near any of those schools, it's worth following the news. I'm happy to help you keep an eye on it.

How do schools affect home values in Sandy?

In my experience, school assignment is one of the first things Sandy buyers ask about, and it shapes demand. Homes within walking distance of an elementary school, or inside the boundary of a high school a buyer has their heart set on, tend to draw more interest from families. More interest usually means a quicker sale and a stronger position for the seller.

It works the other way too. Because boundaries can change, I always tell buyers to look at the whole picture, not just the school assignment: the home, the neighborhood, the commute and what fits your family's budget. A great school is one piece of a great move.

If you're selling, knowing exactly which schools your home feeds, and saying so accurately in your listing, is an easy way to reach the families most likely to buy it.

What's the best school in Sandy?

The honest answer is that it depends on your child. One family wants Spanish immersion at Union Middle, another wants career classes at CTEC, and another wants the K-12 setting of Beehive Academy. I'd encourage you to visit, talk with the principal and, where you can, talk with parents who already have kids there.
