Best Schools in Draper, UT: A Parent's Guide
If you're looking at homes in Draper, UT, you're probably also looking at schools. Draper has something most cities in the valley don't: it sits in two counties, so it's served by two school districts. Most of the city is in Canyons School District. The Utah County side of SunCrest is in Alpine School District, which becomes the new Aspen Peaks School District in July 2027. Draper also has five tuition-free charter campuses within city limits.

A Parent's Guide: Your Draper School Questions, Answered
How do school boundaries work in Draper?
Each district assigns every address to one elementary, one middle, and one high school. The schools are organized into "feeder" groups that flow into each high school. In most of Draper, the pattern is simple:
- Corner Canyon feeder: Draper, Oak Hollow, and Willow Springs elementaries feed Draper Park Middle, then Corner Canyon High.
- Northern Draper: Some neighborhoods near the Sandy line are assigned to Lone Peak or Sprucewood Elementary. Lone Peak feeds both the Draper Park/Corner Canyon path and the Indian Hills/Alta path, depending on the address.
- SunCrest, Utah County side: Ridgeline Elementary, then Timberline Middle, then Lone Peak High.
Boundaries are set by each district's school board and can change. Canyons is in the middle of a district-wide boundary study, and some proposals affecting the Sandy schools near Draper, including Lone Peak Elementary, were paused in May 2026. That's worth watching if you're buying in northern Draper.
How can I check which schools a specific address feeds into?
Don't rely on a listing sheet, a school's name, or "the closest school." Check the address itself:
- For Salt Lake County addresses, open Canyons School District's School Finder.
- Type in the street address and ZIP code.
- The tool shows the assigned elementary, middle, and high school, plus bus eligibility.
For Utah County addresses in SunCrest, contact Alpine School District at (801) 610-8400. When I help buyers, I run this check on every home before we write an offer, not after.
What's happening with Alpine School District?
Utah County voters approved splitting Alpine School District into three new districts. Starting with the 2027-28 school year, Draper's Utah County portion becomes part of Aspen Peaks School District, along with Alpine, American Fork, Cedar Hills, Highland, and Lehi. If you're buying on the Utah County side of SunCrest, ask whether school assignments or bus routes are expected to change.
What is open enrollment, and how does it work?
Open enrollment (Canyons calls it "School Choice") lets your child apply to attend a public school other than the one your address is assigned to. The recommended early window runs from November 15 through the first Friday in February, for the following school year. Late requests are accepted year-round, depending on space.
Approved permits renew automatically while your child stays at the same school, but you'll need to reapply when moving from elementary to middle school or from middle to high school. Dual Language Immersion students are placed in the right middle and high school by the district. Seats depend on space, so a permit is never guaranteed. Details are on Canyons' Open Enrollment page.
How do charter schools work?
Charter schools in Utah are free public schools that any Utah student can apply to, no matter where they live. You apply directly to each school. When a charter gets more applications than seats, it holds a lottery, with certain preferences allowed (such as siblings of current students). Deadlines vary, so check each school's website early. Many families apply in the winter for the following fall.
Where can I see test scores and school data?
The Utah State Board of Education publishes a School Report Card for every public and charter school, and the Utah Data Gateway lets you compare schools side by side. I always suggest pairing the numbers with a visit. Walk the halls, meet the principal, and ask about class sizes.
How do schools affect home values in Draper?
Schools are one of the first things families ask about, and that demand shows up when it's time to sell. A home's assigned schools don't change its square footage, but they do shape who's shopping for it. In Draper, that plays out in a few specific ways:
- Feeder pattern matters to buyers. Many families narrow their search to one high school, often Corner Canyon or Alta, which can concentrate demand on the homes inside that boundary.
- Immersion programs draw buyers. Families who want Chinese or French immersion often look first at homes near Draper Elementary or Oak Hollow.
- The county line changes the picture. In SunCrest, two homes a few streets apart can have completely different schools, districts, and bus service. A buyer should know which side a home is on before making an offer.
If you're selling, knowing exactly which schools your address feeds, and saying so plainly in your listing, is one of the easiest ways to reach the right buyers.
Questions to Ask When You're House Shopping in Draper
- Which schools is this exact address assigned to today?
- Is this home in Salt Lake County or Utah County?
- Is the neighborhood part of any Canyons boundary-study proposal?
- How do the assigned schools compare with charters like American Preparatory Academy, Channing Hall, or Summit Academy?
- What will the school-day routine look like: bus, walk, or carpool?
